![]() Weiss added that Havenpark also invested in and completed around $400,000 worth of tree work, road work, and general landscaping within the past year. He said there has been no rent increase during the second year, but residents are now paying $8 a month for garbage removal as well as extra for water and sewer depending on usage. Weiss said for years rent fees at the Highwoods have been far below comparable communities and that when Haven Park took over, they did raise the monthly rent by $47. Weiss added that the company must account for the significant costs of providing professional management, capital improvements, rising fixed costs such as property taxes, payroll, insurance, maintenance, and other operating costs. Havenpark did not want to be interviewed on camera for this story, but spokesperson Josh Weiss told MTN communities like the Highwoods are “market rent” properties and rents are based on other housing options nearby, typically half that of a two-bedroom apartment in most markets. Cindy says paying $500 a month isn’t out of the question. “We know that’s inevitable because they have a four-year track record in 10 other states.”Ĭindy says for comparison, rents were raised by just $117 dollars a month in the 20 years before Havenpark took over. “I’m expecting our increase to $450 any day,” said Newman. She doesn’t expect the increases to stop there. She says when Utah based Havenpark Capital unknowingly came in last November and took over, her lot rent was $283 a month. “We don’t know if the next increase is going to force us out of our homes,” said Newman. ![]() And with the community under new ownership, she says residency for her and the other tenants, mostly senior citizens on fixed incomes, may be in jeopardy. Also, the location is very convenient to the water, but we will not be staying there again.Cindy Newman has lived in the Highwoods Manufactured Home Community for 20 years. I would not recommend the RV side of Bowery Haven, but the Cafe and store were very nice. ![]() We ate the cost of our reservation, even though we left early. So we packed up and spent the rest of our time at the forest service campsites. After Sunday, a lot of the spots opened up, but it was still not the vacation we had dreamed of. The bathrooms they advertised were disgusting and had spiders everywhere. Turns out they only had common areas for that- which were worn down. I expected there to be a fire pit and picnic table for preparing food and eating. In addition, the people on either side of us were also cramped in their spaces, so we felt claustrophobic. Our spot had zero shade and there was barely enough room to park our truck to the side. Luckily, the spot behind us hadn't been filled yet, so we were able to pull through, otherwise, we would have had to ask the neighbors to move their truck. When we arrived, we found the place so packed in, it was difficult to back in to our spot. We took our little 19 ft RV and decided to book one of the RV spots at Bowery Haven. We went to Fish Lake for a weekend getaway. We also rented the aluminum fishing boats for two days and they worked well.… These basic amenities wouldn't cost that much and would last for years. It just seems that for the cost, there should be a few more amenities in the house so we don't have to pack everything. There is a small TV upstairs in the loft, but it isn't hooked to anything. There is a TV in the main room, but no TV service. You would think they would be included at the basic rental of $900/day, pre-tax.) There are no games of any kind. (There is a pan/dishes rental package available for an additional $50/day. There is no disposal, no dishwasher, and no small appliances such as toaster, hand mixer, or coffee maker. The kitchen has two top-freezer fridges, a stove, a microwave, and a sink. The cabin replaces setting up a tent and taking bedding, but the rest of the effort is about the same as camping. I was a bit disappointed at the lack of furnishings. ![]() The cabin was nice because everything is new. We had a family reunion with 19 people ranging from Grandma and Grandpa to toddlers. There are two new large cabins at Bowery Haven.
